Sta'Nisha Hersey finished her second season as an assistant coach with the Blue Hose in 2020-21. She initially joined the program in June of 2019.
In her second season at PC, the Blue Hose turned in their best overall record (11-10) since 2015-16, and earned their most Big South Conference victories (10), since 2016-17. Presbyterian also had three All-Conference performers in 2020-21, as Tionna Carter, Jade Compton and Trinity Johnson were all named Honorable Mention All-Big South.
During Hersey's first season at Presbyterian, the Blue Hose improved their overall win total by five and their conference win total by three over the prior campaign. PC knocked off Longwood in the first round of the Big South Conference Championship, before the remainder of the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19. After the season, Trinity Johnson was named Honorable Mention All-Conference and Tionna Carter was selected to the All-Freshman Team.
Hersey came to PC after one season as head coach at Otero Junior College where she improved the team’s record by six wins, finishing 16-13, and led the Rattlers to a spot in the Region IX Tournament. Otero garnered two All-Region players in Alessia Capley (All-Tournament) and Grace O’Neill (All-Region and All-Region Defensive Team), as well as a pair of NJCAA Academic All-Americans in McClain Walker and Laura Prado-Morales. Under her guidance, all five sophomores graduated in May with academic honors.
She previously spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Dodge City Community College (2015-18) after being a grad assistant at Southern Mississippi (2013-15) and assistant coach at Fort Scott Community College (2012-13).
While at Dodge City, she coached Alexis Johnson to All-KJCCC Second Team honors, as well as assisted in the team’s compiling a 17-14 record in 2015-16. The 2017-18 team recorded the program’s most conference wins in 10 seasons.
During her time with Southern Mississippi, the Golden Eagles compiled a record of 52-18, made consecutive trips to the WNIT and allowed Hersey the opportunity to coach in two Conference USA Tournament finals.
Hersey began her undergrad at Garden City Community College (2007-10) where she spent one year under the direction of head coach Alaura Sharp. She then finished her career at Pittsburg State (2010-12) where she graduated with honors in May 2012, earning a bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Science, with an emphasis in Individual and Family Management, to go with a minor in Psychology.
Hersey earned her master’s degree in Human Performance and Recreation with an emphasis in Sport Coaching Education from Southern Mississippi (2015) while being on the Dean’s List and a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron.
Originally from Shawnee, Kans., Hersey is married to James Hersey, and the couple have two children.
