Sean Drexl just completed his first season as an assistant coach with the Presbyterian College volleyball program in the fall of 2022 after joining the Blue Hose in February of 2022.
"I'm very excited to have Sean join this program! He was highly recommended by a colleague of mine, and after our first conversation I could feel his passion for the game and for coaching", said coach Burgess. "He will help in all facets of the game and primarily work with our outside hitters and passers."
In 2022, PC earned a pair of Freshman of the Week’s for Anna Baranski and a Player of the Week for Kasey Battle. Anna Hewitt became the sixth player in the Blue Hose DI era to eclipse 1,000 digs. Rylee Moorhead earned All-Big South Honorable Mention and Paige Cairns earned her second straight All-Academic Team Award. The Blue Hose as a team tallied 179 aces which ranks third in the Blue Hose DI record book.
Drexl comes to PC most recently serving as an assistant coach at Georgia Southern. He assisted the Eagles' coaching staff with scouting, film review, statistical analysis, practice, and game preparation. He was also responsible for serve and pass during the pregame warmup, and defensive alignment during the match. Drexl helped Georgia Southern to their first winning record since 2013, and mentored first team All Sun Belt recipients at middle blocker and libero.
"I am beyond excited to be a part of Presbyterian's volleyball family. I would like to thank Coach Burgess for extending this opportunity to me and welcoming me into the program", said Drexl. "I am very eager to contribute qualities of passion, positivity, and altruism within the program and community moving forward."
Drexl also has experience coaching premier teams at the high school level. He currently spends time as a head coach for the U15 Girls Premier Team in the Upward Stars program. He teaches core principles and guided learning through a positive and inclusive environment.
From 2018-2021, he was the head coach for the U16 Boys Team in the MVP Academy. There he inspired young student-athletes and was a motivational leader for athletic and academic success. He taught a growth mindset for continual player development and encouraged passion of the game.
During his playing days, Drexl was a four-year member for the University of Charleston. There, he was one of the team's liberos and was a member of the EIVA All-Academic Team each year, was a team captain for the 2021 season, and was second team All-Conference Libero with the Golden Eagles. He played in 119 career sets over 46 matches, collected 136 digs, and recorded 24 assists.
