CLINTON, SC - Presbyterian College's sophomore forward Jessi Adair (Decatur, GA) scored at the 59th minute to lift the Blue Hose to a 1-0 victory over Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action Friday afternoon.
The Blue Hose played their final match on the home field affectionately known as the "Ponderosa" today. It was fitting that it would come against their SAC rival Catawba College with second place in the league hinging on the outcome. The win gives PC a second place finish in the SAC regular season with a 5-1-1 mark while Catawba falls to third place at 5-2-0.
Both teams battled throughout the first half as PC outshot the Indians 4-2 in the first half. Presbyterian controlled the second half with the majority of play being on Catawba's side of the field. The Blue Hose finally broke through at the 59:06 mark as Adair found the back right corner of the goal off the hands of Catawba's junior goalkeeper Jackie Carson (Summerland Key, FL). Carson on the day tallied two saves while allowing just one goal. The end was fast and furious as Catawba looked to tie the match, but PC's defense held to pick up the win.
PC's junior goalkeeper Lara Johnson (Hilliard, OH) picked up the shutout after going the distance and tallying one save. On the day, Presbyterian outshot Catawba 8-3.
The Blue Hose improve to 9-4-1 overall while Catawba falls to 10-6.
PC returns to action tomorrow at 4:00 pm as they play their first match in their new soccer facility, Martin Stadium at Edens Field.
