CLINTON, SC - Presbyterian College opened their new stadium in impressive fashion as the defeated Lander University 5-0 in women's soccer action.
PC had said good-bye to their old home field, affectionately known as "The Ponderosa" yesterday with a 1-0 win over Catawba, but had enough left in the tank to take care of the Lady Senators.
Sophomore forward Jessi Adair (Decatur, GA) picked up where she left off yesterday, being the last player to score on the old field and became the first to score on the new field, Martin Stadium at Edens Field. Adair's score came at the 11:53 mark.
Senior forward Ashley Davies (Greenville, SC) scored a pair of goal s at the 22:58 mark and the 28:34 mark both assisted by fellow senior midfielder Jamie Harris (Greenville, SC).
PC took a 4-0 lead early second half when sophomore forward Ashley Leipelt (Anderson, SC) scored at the 44:27 mark off a penalty kick. The Blue Hose finished off the scoring at the 52:48 mark as junior midfielder Meredith Schmidt (Decatur, GA) scored on a lob shot over the head of Lander's freshman goalkeeper Maggie Szala (Columbia, SC).
PC's junior Lara Johnson (Hilliard, OH) and freshman Aimee Tatom (Irving, TX) combined for the shutout for the Blue Hose. Lander's starting keeper junior Ashlee King (Greer, SC) tallied three saves in 45 minutes of action while allowing four goals while teammate Szala allowed one goal.
Presbyterian improves to 10-4-1 overall while Lander falls to 6-8 on the season.
