Women's Soccer Presbyterian College Athletics

FRANCIS MARION KNOCKS OFF PRESBYTERIAN 3-0

CLINTON, SC - Francis Marion's women's soccer team defeated the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College 3-0 tonight at Martin Stadium at Edens Field. The Patriots improve to 8-3-1 while the Blue Hose drop to 4-4-1.

The Patriots got on the scoreboard in the 9th minute when freshman midfielder Lauren Griffee (Frederick, MD) found the back of the net on a great header which was assisted by Lindsey Doell (Calcium, NY) and Denneny Budlong (Richmond, VA) off a corner kick.

Francis Marion and Presbyterian both had five shots on goal at the half, but the Blue Hose were down 0-1. The Patriots dominated with seven corner kicks in the first half while PC could only muster up one.

The second period was all Francis Marion as sophomore defender Tristen Grooms (Xenia, OH) put the Patriots up 2-0 off an assist by Budlong at the 63:52 mark. Freshman forward Julia Lufriu (Waldorf, MD) finished the scoring for Francis Marion at the 84:01 mark when she found the back of the net after an assist from sophomore Katie Roberts (Frederick, MD) to put the Patriots up 3-0.

Blue Hose goalkeeper Lara Johnson (Hilliard, OH) gave up all three goals while tallying three saves on the night. Patriot's netminder junior Amanda Liles (Cincinnati, OH) recorded the shutout along with three saves of her own.

The Patriots return to action on October 10 at home as they host the Pacers of USC Aiken. The Blue Hose also return to action on October 10 as they play host to conference rival Mars Hill College at 5:30 pm.
