PC Opens SAC Play With 6-0 Shutout Against Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. - Presbyterian College opened South Atlantic Conference regular season play in impressive fashion by defeating Newberry College 6-0 on the road Wednesday afternoon.

PC's Delisa Smith (Anderson, SC) had three goals and an assist, to lead PC to a 6-0 shutout of the Lady Indians.

The match was tight until Smith took a pass from Ashley Cooke (Roswell, GA) in the 17th minute to give the visitors the only goal they would need in the win. Three minutes later, Smith was again the recipient of an assist, this time from Jessi Adair (Decatur, GA) to give PC a 2-0 halftime lead.

The second half saw the visitors turn up the heat, as they outshot Newberry 13-2, with four of those shots finding the back of the net. It took 18 minutes to start the scoring in the second half, but Meredith Orland (Columbia, SC) took a pass from Smith for the third goal.

Adair scored a goal, as did Cooke and Smith's third goal in the second half for the final 6-0 score.

PC's defense limited Newberry to only four shots on the evening, while evening their record at 1-1, and moving to 1-0 in South Atlantic Conference action. Newberry falls to 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference action.
