ANDERSON, S.C. - Presbyterian College's senior forward Jessi Adair (Decatur, Ga.) scored a hat trick to lead No. 8 Blue Hose to a 7-0 victory over Anderson College in a non-conference women's soccer match Wednesday night at Smethers Field.
The victory improves PC, ranked eighth nationally and No. 1 in the region, to 9-0-0 overall. The loss, AC's fourth in its last five matches, drops the Lady Trojans to 7-5. In the four losses, AC has scored just three goals.
The Blue Hose dominated the match from start to finish. PC outshot AC, 34-4. Adair opened the scoring four minutes into the match off an assist from SAC Player of the Week selection, junior forward Delisa Smith (Anderson, S.C.). Seventeen minutes later, Smith scored from in front to make it 2-0 off an assist from Adair. Adair made a slide to punch in her second goal in the 29th minute, off an assist from freshman midfielder Megan Smith (Greenville, S.C.). Adair added her third goal 13 minutes into the second half off an assist from teammate Delisa Smith.
The Blue Hose then completed the rout by scoring three goals in the final 10 minutes. Freshman forward Elizabeth Orstadt (Marietta, Ga.) picked up her sixth goal of the season at the 83rd minute mark off an assist from fellow freshman forward Jennifer Merritt (Easley, S.C.). Megan Smith (Greenville, S.C.) added her fourth goal of the season at the 87th minute. Merritt finished of the Blue Hose scoring with a breakaway goal at the 88th minute.
Junior keeper Aimee Tatom (Irving, Tex.) and freshman keeper Megan Mueller (Kingsport, Tenn.) shared the PC goal for the shutout.
The #8-ranked Blue Hose (9-0-0, 3-0-0 SAC) return to action on Saturday, October 5 when they travel to Greeneville, Tenn. to take on defending SAC champion, #25 Tusculum College (5-3-1, 2-0-1 SAC) at 2:00 pm.
