CLINTON, S.C. - The 16th ranked Blue Hose women's soccer team had five goals on 26 shots tonight as they beat the Lander University (6-7-1) Lady Senators 5-1. Presbyterian (11-2-1) displayed their depth as five different players netted goals.
The match started off for the Blue Hose on a bad note as Lander junior defender Erin Hesse (Mt. Pleasant, SC) got through the PC defense and netted a shot past junior goalkeeper Aimee Tatom (Irving, TX). After that first goal though PC shut the door on the Lander offence, the Lady Senators were only able to get four shots the entire evening while Presbyterian poured it on.
Two minutes later the Blue Hose struck back off of the foot of senior midfielder Jessi Adair (Decatur, GA) as she put back a deflection by sophomore goalkeeper Katherine Duncan (Hilton Head, SC). Freshman midfielder Megan Smith (Greenville, SC) got the next PC goal as after she received a pass from freshman forward Elizabeth Ortstadt (Marietta, GA). Smith then assisted freshman defender Jennifer Merritt (Easley, SC) to give the Blue Hose a 3-1 lead before the end of the half.
In the second half PC continued the attack and in the 64th minute junior midfielder Ashley Cooke (Roswell, GA) made a shot 30 yards from the goal and snuck it past Duncan to give the Blue Hose the 4-1 lead. Ortstadt made the final goal of the evening as she took a cross from junior forward Delisa Smith (Anderson, SC).
Lander University goalie Duncan made eight saves on the evening while Tatom and freshman goalkeeper Megan Mueller (Kingsport, TN) each took turns in goal for the Blue Hose and did not need to make a save the entire evening.
Presbyterian College will take on Catawba College this Saturday at 7:00 pm here in Clinton. PC will look to take a share of the South Atlantic Conference title if they win. Lander University will play Pfieffer University in Greenwood, SC at 4:30 also this Saturday.
