TUSCULUM SHUTS OUT PRESBYTERIAN, 3-0

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - Tusculum College junior Rachel Barron (Cincinnati, Ohio) and freshman Amber Ferchaud (Gonzales, La.) scored first half goals as the No. 24 Pioneers continued their winning ways against No. 8 Presbyterian College by shutting out the Blue Hose 3-0 in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Field. After losing the first two meetings, Tusculum has not lost to Presbyterian in the last five contests and now leads the series 4-2-1.

Tusculum dominated play in the first half, outshooting the Blue Hose 9-3, controlling possession for most of the opening frame. Barron opened the scoring at the 22:41 mark, taking a pass from sophomore Amanda Stepp (Fenton, Mo.). Ferchaud made the score 2-0 in favor of the Pioneers less than eight minutes later, heading in a corner kick from senior Courtney Outen (Baltimore, Mary.). For Ferchaud, it was her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Right after halftime, Presbyterian put pressure on the Tusculum defense, but was unable to put any serious scoring chances on goal. The Pioneers' third goal came on an own goal in the 66th minute. Tusculum's three scores more than doubles the two goals Presbyterian had allowed for the season coming into the match.

Tusculum senior Jennie Murphy (Fairfield, Ohio) made seven saves in goal for her third shutout of the season. Junior Aimee Tatom made six saves for the Blue Hose.

Tusculum wins its fourth in a row, upping its mark to 6-3-1 overall and 3-0-1 in SAC play. Presbyterian falls to 9-1, 3-1 SAC. For their next match, the Pioneers travel to Farmville, Va. where they will face Longwood University on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. The Blue Hose face another regionally ranked team on Wednesday, Oct. 9 when they host Wingate University (No. 6 SE Region) at 7 p.m.
