WINGATE UPSETS PRESBYTERIAN 3-1

CLINTON, S.C. - The #6 seed Wingate University Bulldogs upset the #3 seed Blue Hose of Presbyterian College 3-1 in first round action of the Food Lion/South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament tonight at Martin Stadium and Edens Field.

The Bulldogs (14-3-2) advance to the tournament semifinals on Saturday, November 9 at 3:00 pm in Greeneville, Tenn. where they will face #2 seed Catawba College Indians who defeated #7 seed Mars Hill College yesterday 4-0.

Wingate's sophomore forward Vy Le (Charlotte, N.C.) was the story of the match, scoring a pair of goals for the Bulldogs. Le put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard at the 21:16 mark as she broke through the Blue Hose defense for an unassisted goal.

The Bulldogs increased their lead to 2-0 a the 33:58 mark as freshman midfielder Veronica Acosta (Simpsonville, S.C.) scored off an assist from sophomore midfielder Lauren Kopec (Peachtree City, Ga.).

PC fought back and cut the lead to 2-1 at the 38:14 mark as freshman forward Elizabeth Orstadt (Marietta, Ga.) beat Wingate's senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Rogers (Raleigh, N.C.) for her eighth goal of the season. Orstadt's goal was assisted by sophomore defender Hannah Smith (Lilburn, Ga.).

The Blue Hose pressured the Bulldog defense the rest of the half, but Wingate fought off the charge and at the 52:05 mark, Le gave the Bulldogs a commanding 3-1 lead on her second unassisted breakaway goal of the night.

Presbyterian drops to 12-4-1 overall on the season in the loss.

Wingate's Rogers allowed one goal on the night while being credited with five saves. PC's junior keeper Aimee Tatom (Irving, Tex.) allowed all three goals and was credited with three saves.
