CLINTON, S.C. ? The 2007 Presbyterian College football team
heavily etched its name in the Presbyterian College football record book in its 66-52
victory over North Greenville before a Homecoming crowd of 6,047 on Saturday
afternoon at Bailey Memorial Stadium.
The Blue Hose scored all 66 of their points in just 16:37 with the football as the Crusaders had
the football for a total of 43:23 in the game. The 118 points scored combined
in the win set a new PC record in total points and the 66 points secured by the
Blue Hose garnered them their highest total at Bailey Memorial Stadium for the
second consecutive game.
The Blue Hose at 3-3 are now at .500 for the first time as
an NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision team and are in the midst
of a two-game winning streak, which is also a first for the program as an FCS
school.
PC's Tim Webb (Lugoff, S.C.) had the most prolific day in
school history for a Blue Hose quarterback in the North Greenville victory,
passing for a school record 648 yards and a school record seven touchdowns.
Webb was 31-for-40 on the day in total.
Webb had never before passed for over 250 yards in a game
and tallied the career day in only his second career start as the Blue Hose
signal caller. Webb's career day bested former Blue Hose quarterback Todd
Cunningham's 542 yards passing in one game, leaving him as the only Blue Hose
quarterback to ever throw for over 600 yards in a game.
Six of Webb's seven touchdown passes went to wide receivers
Terrance Butler (Myrtle Beach, S.C.)
and Larry Thomas (Orangeburg, S.C.).
The duo hauled in three touchdown catches each to mark the first time that two
Blue Hose wide receivers had acquired three touchdowns in a single game.
Butler ended his
efforts with 215 yards receiving on seven catches, while Thomas had seven
catches for 149 yards. Butler's 215
yards receiving marked the first time that a Blue Hose wide receiver had hauled
in over 200 yards receiving since the 2001 season when D.J. Humphries brought
in 244 yards receiving in a 48-41 win over Tusculum.
The statistics were all career highs for the tandem and Butler's
263 yards all-purpose were a career high and a PC season-high.
The offense was not the only one to set records on the day
as Caleb Massengill (Watkinsville, Ga.)
tied the PC single-game high in total tackles in the win with 13, acquiring
four solo stops and nine assists.
The special teams unit also stepped up in the game with
Justin Durant (Florence, S.C.)
returning a kickoff for a touchdown in the final seven minutes of the game. Durant's
38-yard touchdown return marked the first time that a Blue Hose player had run
back a kickoff for a touchdown since the 2000 season when Travis Smith ran a
kickoff back 92 yards against UVA-Wise on Oct. 28, 2000.
The Blue Hose take to the road again for another three-game
road stretch next week, beginning with a 1 p.m.
game on Saturday, Oct. 6 against VMI in Lexington,
Va.
