CLINTON, S.C. ? On senior day at Bailey Memorial Stadium, Presbyterian College concluded its 2007 home season with a dominating 62-10 win over Chowan University on Saturday afternoon.
PC broke the school single season record for team total offense in the win over Chowan, ending the game with 4,934 total yards in 2007.
The 4,934 yards acquired by PC so far this season broke the old record of 4,771 yards set in the 2001 season.
The Blue Hose with the win are now guaranteed a winning season, ending the Chowan game 6-4 on the year. Chowan ends the game 1-9 on the year entering their final game against Newport News Apprentice.
The 52-point win over the Hawks saw the Blue Hose end their home slate a perfect 3-0 with wins over Chowan, North Greenville and Pikeville. The Blue Hose scored 186 combined points in the three wins at Bailey Memorial Stadium and averaged 705 yards of total offense in the three wins.
Terrance Butler (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) tallied his fifth 100-yard receiving game of the season in the win, finishing with six catches for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Butler, who entered the game fifth in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision in total receiving yards, now has 1,019 yards receiving and 62 catches on the season.
Must of Butler's catches came via the arm of Grayson Mullins (Columbia, S.C.), who was making his first start for the Blue Hose since the Western Carolina game in week four. Mullins was 19-for-29 on his pass attempts in the Chowan victory, passing for 269 yards and three touchdowns.
Butler and Mullins connected on the longest pass play of the year for the Blue Hose in the second quarter when Mullins found a streaking Butler for an 86-yard touchdown reception.
The 86-yard completion was the longest touchdown pass reception in the history of Bailey Memorial Stadium.
Butler was one of 12 Blue Hose to catch pass in the game, marking the fifth time in the 2007 season that nine or more Blue Hose had caught a pass in a single PC contest.
Four Blue Hose had touchdown receptions in the game including Butler. Justin Durant (Florence, S.C.) caught his fourth touchdown in the last three weeks in the game to conclude his senior year at home.
Robert Bumgarner (Durham, N.C.) acquired his second touchdown of the season receiving in the win, while Larry Thomas (Orangeburg, S.C.) corralled his sixth of the year in the game.
Bumgarner's touchdown actually came off the arm of Butler, who threw for the first touchdown of his career by connecting with Bumgarner for a 42-yard touchdown.
The Blue Hose had a season-high 12 players rush the football led by Mullins, who was 13 yards shy of his first career 100-yard game, finishing with 87 yards and one touchdown on the ground.
Including Mullins, four Blue Hose student-athletes had rushing touchdowns in the game.
Clinton native Sam Wilson tallied his first career touchdown in the contest when he rushed for a one-yard score in the second quarter.
Parker Fleming, who spelled Mullins at quarterback in the game, rushed for his first career touchdown in the game and also passed for the first touchdown of his career in the victory. Fleming (Atlanta, Ga.) was 6-for-13 in the game, passing for 121 yards.
S.J. Worrell (Madison, Ga.) continued to rack up touchdowns in the game, rushing for his seventh touchdown in the last four games.
Torrell Funderburk (Pageland, S.C.) tallied a career-high seven total tackles in the game to tie for the overall lead in the department. Antwan Thomas (Hawkinsville, Ga.), who now has a team-high 65 total stops in 2007, tied Funderburk with seven total tackles.
In his final game in a Blue Hose uniform at home, Sherman Burnett (Norwood, Ga.) acquired five tackles and a sack to end the game with 204 tackles in his career.
The Blue Hose will close out their inaugural FCS season at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10 against Charleston Southern in Charleston, S.C.
