PC Falls Just Short Against Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. ? Presbyterian College's men's soccer team gave Charlotte all it could handle in a 1-0 double overtime loss to the 49ers on Saturday evening.

The loss dropped the Blue Hose to 1-7 on the 2007 campaign, while the win improved the 49ers to 4-3 on the year.

Mark Owens (Charleston, S.C.) played all 110 minutes between the pipes for the Blue Hose in the game, saving five Charlotte shots. The Blue Hose forced Charlotte netminder David Martin into six saves.

The contest's lone goal came early in the final minute of the second overtime period when junior midfielder Kent Long threaded the ball through the Presbyterian defense after a long-ball assist from senior defender Paul Beque and short help from senior defender Graham Tatters.

Overall, Charlotte had two more shots than PC (11-9), while the Blue Hose had one more corner kick than the 49ers (3-2).

The Blue Hose will next travel to UNC Asheville for a 4 p.m. game on Tuesday, Sept. 25. PC will then play for the first time in the friendly confines of Martin Stadium at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, facing off against former SAC rival Lincoln Memorial.
