Records Fall In Domination Of Pikeville

CLINTON, S.C. ? The Bobby Bentley era of Presbyterian College football in the friendly confines of Bailey Memorial Stadium began with a bang before 4,983 fans in PC's dominating 58-7 victory over Pikeville College on Saturday afternoon. The 51-point lopsided victory is the ninth-largest margin of victory in the history of the program.

The win marked Bentley's first win as an intercollegiate head coach and PC's first victory since they moved up classifications to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision.

PC tied or broke five different records in the contest, including the largest victory in the six-year history of Bailey Memorial Stadium.

The Blue Hose finished the contest with a program single game-high 795 yards of total offense, including a program-high 603 yards in the air.

Prior to Saturday's win over the Bears, PC had never amassed over 640 yards of total offense (PC 62, Catawba 14 in 1994) and never thrown for more than 542 yards (PC 48, Tusculum 41 in 2001).

The next two records came mostly off the arm of PC starting quarterback Grayson Mullins (Columbia, S.C.), who with 343 yards passing became the first Blue Hose quarterback since Zach Ellis in a game with Elon in September of 2005 to hurl for over 300 yards.

Mullins tied fellow Blue Hose and Irmo quarterback Todd Cunningham for most touchdown passes in a single game with six. In total, Mullins was 17-for-27 in the game with no interceptions.

Mullins was one of two Blue Hose quarterbacks to pass for a touchdown as his backup Tim Webb (Lugoff, S.C.) threw for one touchdown and finished the game 15-for-26 with one interception.

The seven touchdown passes thrown by the Blue Hose quarterback unit tied for the all-time program single game-high. It had been 55 years since a Blue Hose hurling staff had thrown for so many touchdowns in one game (PC 44, Western Carolina 6 in 1952).

The Blue Hose had 12 receivers catch a pass in the lopsided victory led by Terrance Butler (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) and Brandon Clark (Duluth, Ga.), who both caught five passes for 99 yards. Butler had two touchdowns in the contest, while Clark had one.

The duo were two of six Blue Hose receivers to end the game with a touchdown reception.

PC running back S.J. Worrell (Madison, Ga.) also had five catches for 80 yards on the day, including one touchdown. Worrell rushed for 42 yards as well to finish the day with 122 yards of total offense.

Matt Quinn (Wellford, S.C.) and Joshua Anderson (North Augusta, Ga.) both garnered their first touchdown catches of their Blue Hose career in the game.

Clinton native Chetyuane Reeder continued to impress in the game, finishing with 68 yards rushing, including a 63-yard scamper. Reeder also made two tackles on the defensive side of the ball, which included a half of a tackle-for-loss.

The PC defensive unit was led in the win by Brian Leonardi (Aiken, S.C.) and Chris Bowman (Conway, S.C.), who both led the Blue Hose in total tackles with five.

Converted quarterback Kyle Harris (Royston, Ga.) picked up an interception in the game, while Antwan Thomas (Hawkinsville, Ga.) had three tackles, one half of a sack and 1.5 tackles-for-loss.

Harris was one of three Blue Hose to record an interception in the victory as Dustin Raley (Camden, S.C.) and Caleb Massengill (Watkinsville, Ga.) both plucked their first interceptions of the season in the win.

PC only one had one punt in the contest, but Bryson Summers' (West Columbia, S.C.) one punt went 48 yards. Freshman Cam Miller (Lyman, S.C.) connected on PC's only field goal of the day, hitting a 24-yarder in the third quarter.

Pikeville was led in the loss by De'Von Joseph (Ladson, S.C.), who scored their only touchdown and rushed for 91 yards. Defensively, Sean McKinley (Wilsonville, Ala.) finished his day with a game-high 11 tackles for Pikeville.

PC will get right back to work on Sunday as they begin preparation for the Samford Bulldogs, who they will face at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13 at Seibert Stadium in Birmingham, Ala.
