CLINTON, S.C. ? Presbyterian College for the second consecutive home match mounted a late second half rally, but they once again fell short in a 2-1 loss to Big South Conference foe Liberty at Martin Stadium.
Down 2-0, PC was able to get on the scoreboard in the 83rd-minute when sophomore Yinka Salaam (London, England/Kingston) scored his first goal in a Blue Hose uniform.
Salaam netted the goal when he headed in a perfectly placed corner from Chris Brophy (Glasgow, Scotland/Cumbernauld). The goal helped continue the late PC rally, but Liberty was able to withstand PC's advances and earn the 2-1 win.
All three goals in the match came in the second half.
Liberty picked up the first goal of the game in the 59th-minute when Cameron Chastain was able to tap in a pass from Chris Osborne.
The Flames acquired their second at the 79:36 mark when Joshua Boateng scored his ninth goal of the year. Boateng used a through ball from Justin Willoughby to break free and score the eventual game-winning goal.
Both teams finished the game with 13 shots each. The two squads combined for 17 corner kicks with Liberty taking 12 of the corner kicks.
The two teams concluded the first half even at 0-0.
The Blue Hose had the best chance in the first stanza with Brophy nearly scoring on a free kick from just outside of the 18-yard box. Brophy's well-hit attempt looked to be going in, but it nicked off the right post and the Liberty defense was able to kick the rebound out of bounds for a Blue Hose corner.
The Brophy shot was one of five for the Blue Hose in the first half. Liberty had three shots in the first half.
The loss to the Flames drops the Blue Hose to 2-11-1 on the year overall and 0-5 in league action. Liberty is now 2-3 on the year in the Big South and 7-5 overall.
The Blue Hose remain home next to take on High Point at 7 p.m. on Oct. 22.
