Howard Scores in PC Home Loss

CLINTON, S.C. ? Senior midfielder Christy Howard (Lilburn, Ga./Parkview) capitalized on a penalty kick in the 73th minute of action but it wasn't enough as Presbyterian College lost, 2-1, to Campbell University on Monday evening at Martin Stadium.

Campbell (5-8-3, 3-6-1 Atlantic Sun) established a two-goal lead in the first half. The Fighting Camels earned corner kicks two minutes apart to put them within scoring distance. Senior Jenna Sullivan scored off the second corner kick from freshman Marisa Muller at the 27:21 mark.

Muller scored five minutes later as her shot from 25 yards out bounced off PC goalkeeper Sarah Beth Anderson's (Grayson, Ga./Grayson) hands and hit the far post before being knocked in.

PC had a chance to score in the final minutes of the first half, but senior Laura Davis' (Greenville, S.C./Greenville) shot was a hair wide, leaving Campbell with a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Howard scored her first goal of the season as her shot off the penalty kick slipped past a diving Jamie Panfil. The Blue Hose are 1-for-1 in penalty kicks this season.

Anderson made two saves on the evening while Campbell's Panfil stopped a shot from senior forward Lytle Cannon (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg) in the first half.

PC (3-10-2, 1-4-2 Big South) returns to its conference schedule on Wednesday when the team hosts VMI at Martin Stadium at 7 p.m.
