CONWAY, S.C. ? Presbyterian College fell 4-2 to Coastal Carolina in Big South Conference action at CCU Soccer Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The loss dropped the Blue Hose to 2-13-2 on the year overall and 0-6-1 in Big South Conference play. The victory improved Coastal Carolina back to .500 overall at 7-7-1. Coastal Carolina is now 5-1-1 in league contests.
After roughly 20 minutes with neither team able to score a goal in the first half both teams turned up the offense over a seven-minute span with Coastal Carolina taking a 2-1 lead at the end of the offensive onslaught.
Coastal Carolina was able to get on the scoreboard first in the 22nd-minute when Robert Hunter scored his seventh goal of the year for the Chanticleers. Oron Levy earned the Chanticleers a 2-0 advantage just under three minutes later when he volleyed in a shot from 20 yards out at the 24:29 mark.
Blue Hose freshman midfielder Michael Czulinski (Columbia, S.C./Spring Valley) was able to cut the lead in half at the 28:21 mark when he nailed a shot from 25 yards out into the upper right corner of the net. The goal by Czulinski was his team-leading fourth of the season.
The Chanticleers scored the eventual game-winner just 10 minutes into the second half when Ross Kelly headed in a Hunter corner to give Coastal Carolina a 3-1 lead. Hunter, who had five total points in the game, scored his eighth of the year shortly thereafter to give the Chanticleers their fourth goal of the match.
PC junior defender Zach Sinkuler (Roswell, Ga./Centennial) scored the final goal of the game in the 77th-minute. The goal was the first for Sinkuler since he scored in PC's win over nationally-ranked New York Tech (9/22) during his freshman year in 2006.
The two teams combined for a total of 25 shots in the game with Coastal Carolina obtaining 15 of the shots. The Blue Hose only had one corner kick in the game, while Coastal Carolina took five. Both teams committed 11 fouls.
The Blue Hose will next close out their 2008 home campaign against Furman at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2 at Martin Stadium. It will be Senior Day at Martin Stadium and Bret Boulware and the men's soccer coaching staff will honor PC's four seniors at halftime of the contest.
