CLINTON, S.C. ? Presbyterian College women's soccer closed out its 2008 season with a 1-0 win over Charleston Southern on Saturday evening at Martin Stadium.
Junior forward Tricia Bryan (Pawley's Island, S.C./Waccamaw) scored the only goal of the game in the 71st minute of the match when she beat CSU's goalkeeper to the right side of the net off a cross by senior midfielder Christy Howard (Lilburn, Ga./Parkview). The goal was Bryan's third of the season while Howard's assist was the eighth of her career, closing out her tenure at PC with 26 points.
The Blue Hose finish their season tied for sixth place in the Big South Conference (3-4-2) and and overall record of 5-10-2. They end the 2008 season with a two-game win streak after beating VMI 3-2 in overtime on Oct. 29.
PC spoiled the Buccaneers' chance to tie for the regular-season conference title with Saturday's win. Charleston Southern (9-5-4, 4-2-3 Big South) will earn a No. 2 seed in the Big South Conference championship.
Coach Purcell and the team honored seven seniors on the last home game of the season. Lytle Cannon (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg), Ashley Cook (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park), Laura Davis (Greenville, S.C./Eastside), Howard and Sheldon Robinson (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest) were recognized in addition to team manager Whitney Minor and student assistant coach Missy Tempel.
