Softball Drops Two On Sunday

? Amanda Miller finished with a game-high tying three hits in Presbyterian College softball's 8-5 loss to Charleston Southern in the consolation bracket of the Charlotte Green & White Tournament at the Phillips Complex.

 

Miller finished 3-of-4 at the plate. She scored two of PC's five runs.

 

The loss to CSU dropped PC to 1-5 on the 2008 season.

 

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the third, PC took a 4-1 lead with four runs in the inning. Taylor Staten (Belvedere, S.C.) got things going for PC in the inning with a double. A couple of batters later Miller singled to center field to score Morgan White (Orlando, Fla.), who had walked after Staten's double.

 

The score 1-1, Paige Cassady (Orlando, Fla.) singled to center field to plate two more for PC and give PC its first lead of the game at 3-1. A couple batters later, Cassady was brought home by Katie Anderson (North Augusta, S.C.) to give PC a 4-1 lead.

 

For the second straight game on Saturday the Blue Hose could not hold on to a 4-1 lead. Charleston Southern would score seven runs over the final four innings to earn the 8-5 victory.

 

Cassady finished the loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday going 2-for-4 at the dish. She also had three RBIs in the loss. Overall on Sunday, Cassady finished with four hits. She was 4-for-6 at the plate in PC's two games.

 

Anderson was 2-for-3 with an RBI for PC in the loss to CSU.

 

The Blue Hose travel to Greenville, S.C. this week to play a doubleheader with Upstate rival Furman. The first game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20.

 

 

 

Charlotte 7, PC 4 

CHARLOTTE, N.C. ? Presbyterian College softball player Mary Gordon struck out four batters from the circle and hit a home run, but it was not enough as the Blue Hose fell 7-4 on Sunday morning to Charlotte in its third game of the Charlotte Green & White Tournament at the Phillips Complex.

 

Gordon (Vernon, Conn.) gave PC a lead at 4-1 when she hit a three-run home run in the top of the third inning. The home run was Gordon's first of the year.

 

The Blue Hose would allow the 49ers to score two runs in the bottom of the third, but would take a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning.

 

The 49ers scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-4 victory over PC. The win over PC improved Charlotte to 4-1 on the year, while PC dropped to 1-4 with the loss.

 

Overall, PC had five hits in the loss to Charlotte on Sunday morning. Paige Cassady (Orlando, Fla.) was the only Blue Hose softball player to finish with multiple hits.

 

Cassady was a perfect 2-for-2 from the plate.

 

Laura Tate (Spartanburg, S.C.) got PC on the scoreboard first in the game when she scored on a wild pitch. Charlotte countered with a run in the bottom half of the inning to set the game at 1-1 before Gordon hit her home run in the top of the third.
