White Leads PC On Tuesday Against WCU

CULLOWHEE, N.C. ? Presbyterian College softball dropped both games of a twinbill with Western Carolina on Tuesday at the Catamount Softball Complex. PC narrowly fell 5-4 to the Catamounts in game one before dropping the second game to WCU, 6-1.

 

The two teams end the year 2-2 against one another. PC swept Western Carolina at the PC Softball Complex on Feb. 28. The Blue Hose rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning to take game one by a 7-6 score. PC carried the momentum into game two as they defeated the Catamounts 8-4.

 

The Blue Hose sweep of the Catamounts at the time was their first twinbill sweep since their move into NCAA Division I.

 

On Tuesday, the Blue Hose opened the scoring in game one when Amanda Miller (Orlando, Fla.) hit an infield single to score Morgan White (Orlando, Fla.). White had originally got on base by tripling to left field.

 

White's triple was the first triple of the year for the Blue Hose softball program.

 

One inning later, PC added three runs to take a 4-0 lead.

 

Jenny Box (Fruitland Park, Fla.) scored the first run for PC in the top of the fourth when she hit her fifth home run of the year. White then singled in Paige Cassady (Orlando, Fla.) to give PC a 3-0 lead. Miller singled through the left side next to score White and give PC a 4-0 advantage.

 

WCU hit two home runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to score four runs and tie the contest at 4-4.

 

The Catamounts' Stephanie Beatty sacrificed to right field in the bottom of the fifth inning to score Danielle Reese and give Western Carolina the 5-4 victory.

 

In total, three Blue Hose finished with two hits in game one. White led the way for PC in the first game, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI and two runs scored.

 

Miller was 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the first game, while Rachel Parker (Lake City, Fla.) was 2-for-4 in the contest.

 

Lauren Ross led the Catamounts in the game one victory. Ross was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run in the WCU win.

 

Mary Gordon (Vernon, Conn.) dropped to 8-11 on the year with the loss from the circle for PC in game one. Gordon struck out seven WCU batters.

 

In the second game, WCU scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back.

 

PC was held to just three hits overall in the game.


The Blue Hose scored their lone run in the second game when Ashley Ford (
Marietta, Ga.) doubled in Stephanie Payne (Myrtle Beach, S.C.).

 

PC is now 12-25 on the season, while WCU is 11-30 on the year.

 

The Blue Hose next travel to Rock Hill, S.C. for a doubleheader with future Big South Conference foe Winthrop. First pitch in game one of the twinbill is scheduled for 5 p.m.
