CLEMSON, S.C. ? Junior goalkeeper Abby Young (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) stopped a career-high 15 shots as Presbyterian College lost its season opener against Clemson, 3-0. Young played the entire 90 minutes between the pipes in her second career start for PC.
“It was an unbelievable effort and the team worked really hard together,” said head coach Brian Purcell. “It was a great defensive effort and we really hung in there until the very end.”
Seniors Rachel Lamb (Conyers, Ga./Salem) and Sheldon Robinson (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest) anchored a defense that forced the Tigers offsides eight times. Freshman Jessica Kramer (Acworth, Ga./Harrison) also aided the Blue Hose defense for 90 minutes.
Junior Lindsey Jackson scored Clemson's (2-0) first goal in the 14th minute of the first half. PC held off the Tiger offense for the next hour before senior Julie Bolt headed a pass by Abby Lambert into the net in the 76th minute of play. Sophomore Judea Davis gave Clemson it's final goal in the final minute of the match.
Offensively, Robinson and junior midfielder Tricia Bryan (Pawley's Island, S.C./Waccamaw) each registered shots on Clemson's Paula Pritzen in the first half. Freshman Morgan Fragapane (Bradenton, Fla./St. Stephens) made PC's third attempt on goal in the second half.
The Blue Hose (0-1) will travel to Waco, Texas to take on Baylor on Sunday at 1 p.m.
