Lexington, Va. - Presbyterian College men's soccer suffered
its second consecutive defeat by a 1-0 margin to Liberty on Friday night. The Blue Hose drop to 2-9-1 on the season and
1-4-1 in the Big South while the flames improve to 6-2-3 on the year and 1-0-2
in Big South play.
"A slow start cost us the game," said head coach Bret
Boulware. "We created some very good chances
but failed to put them away. I'm really
proud of the guys' effort. Results will
come if we keep playing the way we played tonight."
The Flames went on top in the 9th minute thanks
to an unassisted Phillip Aseweh goal. He
gained possession at the top of the box and beat the PC defender to score his
fourth goal of the season.
Paul Gunning's 14th minute equalizer attempt hit
the crossbar to deny the freshman from Scotland. He would post two other shots in the match
which were both saved. He led the attack
with three total shots.
PC was unable to earn the draw despite outshooting Liberty
12-11 and 9-7 in the second half. Each team
put six efforts on goal with Liberty leading the saves ledger, 6-5.
Logan Huff and Davis Orders each took two shots for PC to
help out in attack.
Andrew Wallingford played the opening half in goal making
three saves but allowing the goal. James
Neal relieved Wallingford between the pipes at halftime and made two additional
saves.
PC will return to the Big South campaign with a home fixture
against Coastal Carolina on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. The match is PC's first home match since
winning the program's first league game on Oct. 3 against Radford.
