CLINTON, S.C.
- Each week the Presbyterian College sports information office will
post match notes for the upcoming football game. The notes include
insight between the teams, tidbits of information not found anywhere
else about the PC football program in addition to Big South Conference
information and statistics. This week, the notes are a preview for the
homecoming game against VMI, which is being broadcast by WLBG. Click
on the pdf to view this week's notes.
Head coach Harold Nichols
will lead the team down the hill and onto the field of play while
running barefoot to raise awareness about Samaritan's Feet, which PC
has teamed up to help with this school year. Nichols will also conduct
his post-game television interviews without shoes on as well.
Fans
are encouraged to bring a pair of new or slightly worn lace-up shoes to
donate at the game. Donations are being accepted as well - and for as
little as $5.00, shoes can be purhcased for Samaritan's Feet.
Below is all the information needed for Samaritan's Feet.
Barefoot for Bare Feet during
Homecoming
Welcome home; sit back, kick off your shoes and donate them to Samaritan's Feet.
This year, the Big
South Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has adopted the
international humanitarian organization, Samaritan's Feet, as the foundation
each school within the conference will be competing to raise awareness,
support, and funds for. Founded by
Emmanuel "Manny" Ohonme, Samaritan's Feet is an organization which collects new
or gently used shoes to be sent out with volunteers who wash the feet and place
the shoes on the nearly 300 million children around the world who go shoeless
due to poverty, war, famine and natural disasters every day. All it takes is $5
to send a pair of these shoes to a child in need.
To kick off the years'
upcoming Samaritan's Feet fundraising events, Presbyterian College and the student athletes will be
hosting a drive to collect shoes and monetary donations at New Bailey Stadium
this Saturday, October 24, during the Homecoming festivities. In honor of the
day, head football coach, Harold Nichols, will be taking on the challenge of
the Barefoot for Bare Feet program as he leads the Blue Hose through the tunnel
barefoot on Saturday and will also be hosting his coaching show without any
shoes on as well.
The Student Athlete
Advisory Committee (SAAC), in conjunction with the entire athletic department,
are encouraging all Blue Hose fans to bring a pair of new or gently used shoes,
be it sneakers, cleats, basketball shoes, running shoes, anything as long as it
has laces, to the game Saturday. SAAC members will be there taking up shoes, as
well as monetary donations, giving further information about the project, and
answering any questions. All gifts are tax deductible and checks may be made
payable to Samaritan's Feet.
As part of the
competition, the institution within the Big South Conference which collects the
greatest number of shoes and the most money throughout the year will be awarded
the Kallander Cup of Service Excellence, to be housed at the school for the
subsequent year, as well as given the opportunity to send some of its student
athletes to Africa to wash and place shoes on children's feet, all expenses of
which will be covered by the Samaritan's Feet organization.
Following our motto,
Dum Vivimus Servimus, which we hold so dear to our hearts, Presbyterian College has set nearly the highest goal in
the Big South Conference, over double its student population, to 2500 pairs of
shoes to be collected this year. Help SAAC in its efforts to support
Samaritan's Feet by providing for the millions of children, not just abroad,
but within our own area, who go without proper footwear daily, and win the Big
South Conference competition!
