CLINTON, S.C. ? Presbyterian College men's tennis dropped its first conference match of the year as Winthrop defeated the Blue Hose, 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Clinton.
The Eagles swept PC in singles competition. Senior No. 3 Patrick Fediuk (Kiberley, British Columbia/Selkirk Secondary) forced his opponent, Nadav Ruppin, to a third set after winning the first set 6-0. Ruppin recovered from his loss and won the next two 6-4, 6-0 to win the match.
Although top-seeded Michael Nicol (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg H.S.) wasn't able to take a set from Roy Sichel, he did push his opponent to the brink in the first set before finally falling 7-6, 6-2.
Fediuk and Nicol had better luck in doubles action, where the two paired up to take down second-seeded Ruppin and Luka Stanic, 9-8. PC's other pairs Matthew Martin (Surrey, British Columbia/Earl Marriott Secondary) and Andrew Lee (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Myrtle Beach H.S.) and Adam Harendeen (Douglasville, Ga./Alexander H.S.) and Brad Luciuk (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Evan Hardy Collegiate) dropped their doubles matches 8-5 and 8-4, respectively.
The Blue Hose pack their bags for Hawaii where they will play three matches Mar. 2-4 against Brigham Young Hawaii, Grand Canyon University and Hawaii Pacific.
