CHARLESTON, S.C. ? The Presbyterian College softball team was unable to come
back fro ma 3-0 deficit after three innings, falling by a 3-2 score to Charleston Southern in the final game of the
three-game series.
The Blue
Hose now stand at 11-13 on the season and 1-3 in Big South Conference play.
After Mary
Gordon breezed through the first two innings, she ran into a little trouble in
the third frame. The home team took a 3-0 lead. The big hit in the inning was a
two-out triple, plating two.
PC had
runners on first and second with one out in the fourth, but the next two
batters struck out swinging to end the threat.
The Lady
Bucs threatened to build on their lead in the fourth, but Laura Tate Owings'
gunned down a base runner at second base, ending the inning with a runner just 60 feet away from giving CSU a 4-0 lead.
Coming off
that positive momentum swing, Tate Owings began the fifth frame with a walk.
She moved to second on Amanda Miller's grounder before scampering to third on a
wild pitch.
After the
second out of the inning, Brittany Howell singled up the gut, cutting the lead
to two, 3-1. Taylor Staten continued her solid season by doubling to left,
scoring Howell and pulling the Blue Hose within one, 3-2.
With two on
in the bottom of the fifth, Gordon induced a pop-up to end the stanza.
In the
sixth, Lindsey Trombley reached on an error with one away. However, Gordon and
Tate Owings were unable to bring her home.
For the
game, PC left six runners on base, three of which were in scoring position.
Head coach Dave Majeski's team tallied two runs on three hits with one error
while CSU had three runs on seven hits while committing an error.
Gordon (4-8)
took the loss despite the complete-game effort. She gave up three runs on seven
hits. Gordon did not walk a batter while striking out three.
The Blue
Hose return to action Monday when they head to Anderson for a doubleheader. First pitch is
slated for 4 p.m.
