CHARLESTON, S.C. ? Heather Isbell put forth an
undefeated day Tuesday afternoon against Charleston Southern, but it was not enough for
Presbyterian College as the women's tennis team fell by
a 6-1 score to Charleston Southern.
The Blue
Hose fall to 2-12 on the season and 0-5 in Big South Conference play. Charleston Southern improves to 4-7 on the
year and 3-1 in league play.
Isbell
teamed up with rookie Paige Oelke to win the doubles match by a 9-8 (7-0) score
over Andrea Schutte and Brooke Pletcher at the top spot.
PC was unable to take the doubles point as the second and third-seeded squads
did not win.
Daryl Thompson and Abby Diminich were defeated 8-4 by Olga Makhova and Marija
Dzakovic at the No. 2 spot. Third-seeded Cara Caruso and Virginia Waldron lost
a hard-fought 8-6 match to Amanda Swindall and Leonie Mandelkow.
Isbell
rounded out her perfect day by once again taking down Schutte. Isbell, laying
at the No. 2 spot, defeated the opposition 7-5, 6-3.
Oelke
pushed Dzakovic hard in both sets at the No. 4 position but was defeated 6-3,
6-3. Top-seeded Diminich fell by a 6-1, 6-1 count to Makhova.
Caruso,
playing at the No. 3 slot, was beaten 6-1, 6-0 by Pletcher. Waldron bounced
back from getting shut out at No. 5 in the first set to take four from
Mandelkow in the second set.
Thompson,
seeing time at the No. 6 spot, fell 6-2, 6-1 to Swindall.
The Blue
Hose return to action Apr. 4 at 11 a.m., against Gardner-Webb. The match
takes place in Boiling Springs, N.C.
