CLINTON, S.C. ? Head men's basketball coach Gregg
Nibert, in conjunction with the Presbyterian College athletics department, is pleased to
announce the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent.
Khalid Mutakabbir and Jay Reynolds will be freshmen on the 2009-2010 Blue Hose
basketball squad as both will begin their college education this fall.
“We are
very excited about the signing of both Khalid Mutakabbir and Jay Reynolds,”
Nibert said. “With the signing of Khalid, we are getting a tremendous athlete
on the wing that can score a variety of ways. He is a tremendous athlete and a hard-nosed
defensive player. Khalid is mentally tough and is a very disciplined
student-athlete. He is a winner and plays for a well-respected coach in Keith
Arrington.”
Mutakabbir
is a 6-4 guard from Peachtree Ridge H.S. The Suwanee, Ga., native guided his team to a Sweet
16 appearance as a senior. By doing so, he helped the squad earn the
second-best record in school history. During his senior campaign, Mutakabbir
averaged 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
A
three-year letterwinner, he garnered honorable mention all-state accolades.
Mutakabbir was just the third student-athlete in the school's history to net at
least 1,000 career points. A Deep South Classic all-tournament team selection,
Mutakabbir won the Gwinnett County scholar-athlete award as a senior.
A native of
Maryville, Tenn., Reynolds is a 6-10 post player
from Maryville H.S. A two-time all-region honoree, Reynolds tallied 14.9 points
and 9.8 rebounds as a senior. During his career, Reynolds earned all-district
accolades on two occasions while also garnering an all-district tournament
selection.
A solid
student-athlete, Reynolds earned an academic letter in chemistry. He also
played AAU basketball for the Tennessee Travelers.
“Jay
Reynolds also plays for a well-respected coach in Mark Eldridge,” Nibert said.
Jay is an excellent student having scored a 1,350 on the SAT and is an
extremely hard worker on the court. He gives our program much needed size at
the post position. Jay is a great rebounder, passer and defender.”
The pair
joins the Blue Hose squad that finished 12-17 overall and 9-9 in their first year of play in the Big
South Conference. PC opens its 2009-2010 slate at Clemson on Nov. 13.
