Florence, S.C. - Presbyterian
College women's soccer saw its two match winning streak snapped on Sunday
afternoon in a 1-0 loss to Francis Marion.
The Blue Hose fall to 2-4 on the season while the Patriots improve to
1-6 on the season.
"We didn't finish our opportunities today," said head coach
Brian Purcell. "Francis Marion had far
fewer quality chances but they either scored or forced great saves each
time. We only forced their keeper to
make one quality save at the very end and that ended up being the difference"
The Patriots took the lead at the halftime horn as Kelly
Kady buried a shot from 15 yards at the buzzer.
The service from the right wing set up the shot to give FMU what would
ultimately prove to be the winning goal.
PC led in all major statistical categories other than the
one that mattered most. The Blue Hose
posted 13 shots, five on goal to the Patriots' totals of ten shots and four on
frame. The visitors earned five corners
while only conceding three.
Tricia Bryan recorded four shots, two on goal to pace the
Blue Hose. Bryan also posted PC's final
scoring opportunity with one second remaining on the clock as her shot from in
the box forced the FMU keeper to make her toughest save of the match. The save sealed PC's goalless match of the
season.
It was a disciplined day as far as fouls were concerned for
PC as the Blue Hose committed 11 infractions and only two in the final
half. Purcell's troops drew 18 whistles
and ten over the final period.
Abby Young started the match for PC and allowed the match's
only goal in her 45 minutes of work.
Sarah Beth Anderson replaced Young in the second half and made three
saves over the final 45 minutes.
The Blue Hose return home on Thursday night to face Wofford starting at 7 p.m.
