CLINTON, S.C.
- Each week the Presbyterian College sports information office will
post match notes for the upcoming football game. The notes include
insight between the teams, tidbits of information not found anywhere
else about the PC football program in addition to Big South Conference
information and statistics. This week, the notes are a preview for the away game against The Citadel, which is being broadcast by WLBG.
This weekend, coaches across the country will be on the same team. The reasons? Coach to Cure MD, a national charity project of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) that culminates on September 26, 2009.
On that game day, thousands of coaches nationwide in all levels of collegiate football will come together to raise awareness and research funding for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, the most prolific genetic kiler diagnosed in childhood.
"College football coaches are dedicated to the betterment of young men and that's why the entire coaching profession is proud to be a part of "Coach to Cure MD," said Grant Teaff, AFCA executive director and legendary former coach of Baylor University. "Our coaches are determined to beat Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and we need college football fans to help."
On September 26, AFCA members will wear a "Coach to Cure MD" logo patch on the sidelines and college football fans will be asked to donate to research projects supported by Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, the largest nonprofit organization in the U.S. focused entirely on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
To donate to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research, fans can either go online to www.CoachtoCureMD.org or text the word "Cure" to 90999 (a $5 donation will automatically be added to your next phone bill and standard text message rates apply).
** For all fans who cannot attend the game, be sure to listen to WLBG for all your pre-game needs. This Saturday afternoon's Ag-South Farm Credith Tailgate Show will feature interviews with Frank King, a two-way lineman who played for PC 1960-63 and is a 1964 graduate. Host John Avery and his crew will also speak with Alex Horton, who was a kicker for the Blue Hose in 1988-89 as well as 1991-92. King's interview will at approximately 4:50 p.m., while Horton's is slated for 5:20 p.m.
