CLINTON, S.C. - Presbyterian College women's
soccer dropped a tough 1-0 defeat to the Winthrop Eagles on Sunday afternoon at
Martin Stadium.
Prior to the
match, the six Blue Hose seniors were honored.
The group included; Stephanie Aaron (Clemson, S.C.), Kate Baker
(Forsyth, Ga.), Renee Ballew (Greer, S.C.), Katie Hunter (Tucker, Ga.), Melanie
Martin (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Meghan Skinner (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.). All six seniors got the start in their final
appearance at Martin Stadium.
In the 32nd
minute, Winthrop (5-8-2, 5-1-1 BSC) scored the breakthrough when Tricia Vensel
went on a run down the nearside wing.
She took a tough angle shot from outside the 18-yard box which went
across the face of goal into the far side upper corner of the net. Her third goal of the season gave the Eagles
a 1-0 lead.
PC (5-11-1,
2-5 BSC) logged just three shots in the first half to Winthrop's ten attempts
on goal. The Blue Hose led in corners,
2-1 after 45 minutes.
The second
half saw more action for the Blue Hose with four shots but no goals as none of
the attempts were on frame. Rebecca
Miller (Pauline, S.C.), Tori Lopez (Snellville, Ga.) and Sara Simpson
(Columbia, S.C.) each had two shots overall for PC with Miller placing one shot
on goal. Baker took one shot which was
on target.
Jordan Broadway
(Chapin, S.C.) made seven saves in goal including four in the second half.
The Blue Hose
close out the season with a pair of road matches. PC visits High Point on Wednesday before
playing Liberty for the season finale on Friday evening. Both matches start at 7 p.m.
