CLINTON, S.C. - A late touchdown pass for
Presbyterian College provided all the scoring for Presbyterian College as the Blue
Hose fell, 37-7 on Saturday afternoon to Stony Brook at Bailey Memorial
Stadium. PC trailed 7-0 at the halftime
break but 30 consecutive points from the Seawolves gave Stony Brook the
victory.
PC falls to
1-8 on the year and 1-4 in the Big South while Stony Brook improves to 5-4
overall and a perfect 4-0 in league play.
"I really feel
like we were making some progress as a football team over the last few weeks
and we were starting to turn a corner," said head coach Harold Nichols. "Today we didn't play very well. Part of it came from a very good Stony Brook
team we played today. Part of it came
from our lack of execution on both sides of the ball."
PC managed
just 176 total yards of offense on the afternoon as Ryan Singer and Myron Gary
combined for 120 yards passing. Singer
made his first career start and was 10-for-16 for 62 yards and had the touchdown
pass, a 12-yard lob to Seth Moreland, with no interceptions. Gary was 6-of-11 in the air for 58 yards. The touchdown pass to Moreland was the
redshirt freshman's first collegiate touchdown reception and came with just 20
seconds remaining in the game.
On the ground,
Trandon Dendy ran ten times for 35 yards.
Gary had 25 yards including a 22-yard scamper. Arthur Williams led PC receiving with three
catches for 43 yards. Patrick McKoy made
three catches and went of the 1,000 career yards threshold with 15 yards on the
day.
Patrick
Morgano had nine punts for 291 total yards and a long of 44 on the breezy
day. He averaged 32.3 yards per punt and
twice pinned the Seawolves deep in their own territory.
"Well I think
we stopped the run pretty well in the first half and we knew going into the
ballgame that we were going to have to stop the run because they are very good
at it," said Nichols.
Stony Brook
had 269 total yards of rushing to go with 239 yards through the air for 508
total yards of offense. The Seawolves controlled
the time of possession battle 35:22 to PC's 24:38. Stony Brook's quarterback was 12-of-20 up top
for four touchdowns and a long of 51 yards.
PC takes to
the road to face Charleston Southern next weekend before returning home in a
fortnight's time for the season finale against Davidson.
