GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Presbyterian College women's tennis team lost a 6-1
decision at Furman late Tuesday evening in a non-conference affair.
The Blue Hose (0-2) were led by upperclassman Megan Davis,
who posted a strong 6-2, 7-5 decision over No. 5 seed Brooke Mosteller for the
only point by PC.
At the top spot, rookie Heather Heusel was able to take two games in each set,
but it was not enough as she fell to Lauren Kline 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Paige
Oelke also put up a strong effort at the No. 4 slot. However, Oelke was
defeated 6-2, 6-3 by Jennifer Betts.
Olivia McMillan lost a 6-1, 6-0 decision at the hands of Jessica Preeg at the
No. 2 spot while Cara Caruso lost a 6-2, 6-0 outcome to third-seeded Michele
Stanford. At the No. 6 position, Jenny Porter downed Daryl Thompson 6-0, 6-2.
In doubles play, Virginia Waldron and Olivia McMillan nearly knocked off Porter
and Mosteller before falling 8-7 (7-5). The Blue Hose were unable to win the
doubles point, however. Second seeded Susan Bitetti and Monica Arguello staved
off a hard-fought match against Davis and Cara Caruso, winning 8-3. Heusel and Oelke
lost an 8-0 battle to Preeg and Stanford at the top spot.
With the victory, the Paladins improve to 3-3.
The Blue Hose now have a week off before taking on Kennesaw State at 1 p.m. on
Wednesday, Feb. 17.
