CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Blue Hose softball team netted a
3-2 win to beat Dayton in the day's opening game before falling to Charleston
Southern by a 9-1 margin.
Morgan Durham led PC at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance while Taylor Staten went 3-for-6
at the dish with a run batted in.
The Blue
Hose scored all three of their runs in the first inning by sending eight
batters to the plate. The runs came off
three hits and two errors in the frame.
PC pitcher
Mary Gordon earned her third win of the season by going six and a third
innings, allowing two runs and scattering five hits in the outing. She fanned four Flyer batters in the
game. Leslie Hensley came in for the
final two outs in the seventh and retired the Dayton side on strike to claim
her first save of the season.
The win
secured PC a spot in the Low Country Invite finale against hosts Charleston
Southern.
Saturday's
second game wasn't as kind as the morning opener. The Buccaneers jumped on top with five runs
in the first inning, followed by three more in the second inning.
The Blue
Hose got onto the scoreboard in the third inning when three consecutive singles
brought Tera Powell around with one out.
PC wasn't able to bring the two runners on base around to score.
An insurance
run in the fourth for CSU helped the Bucs complete the 9-1 win in five innings due
to the run-rule.
Brittany Howell took the loss by going the distance of four innings. She struck out two while allowing nine runs,
seven earned to fall to 2-2 on the season.
Three Blue
Hose student-athletes were named to the were named to the all-tournament
team. Powell, Staten and Hensley each
claimed the accolades.
Presbyterian
College visits Lander on Wednesday for a doubleheader in Greenwood before
hosting Furman on Thursday afternoon for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
