CLINTON, S.C. - Presbyterian College fell twice on
Friday afternoon against Charleston Southern at the friendly confines. The doubleheader went to the Bucs via 1-0 and
11-1 scorelines. The loss drops PC to
13-11 on the season and 1-6 in league play while CSU improves to 19-19-1 and
3-4 in the Big South.
The first
game was a pitcher's duel between CSU's Sondra Vetter and PC's Leslie
Hensley. The Bucs got to Hensley early
with a run in the first inning. The
pitchers then went to work with each hurler working to blank the next 13
frames. Vetter held PC to just five hits
including two off the bat of Taylor Staten.
Hensley
scattered four hits and fanned five but the first inning run would deal her the
loss to fall to 4-6 on the season.
Friday's
second game had a change of method but the same result. CSU tacked three on the
board in the first stanza, five in the third and three more in the sixth to
earn a run-rule victory over the Blue Hose.
PC scratched
the scoreboard in the second inning when Amanda Miller's single up the middle
brought Brittany Howell around to score PC's lone run of the game.
Mary Gordon
got the start in the circle and went two and a third allowing five runs, four
earned off seven hits. She struck out
three in the outing and suffered her fourth loss of the season to fall to
6-4.
On the
offensive side, Rachel Hopper went 2-for-2 in the game and 3-for-5 on the day
to take top honors at the plate. She accounted
for two of PC's seven hits in the finale of the doubleheader.
PC returns
to action on Saturday afternoon with a matinee series finale with the
Bucs. The game starts at 1 p.m. from the
PC Softball Complex and will be available live on the Big South Network as well
as WLBG AM-860 and WLBG.com.
