CONWAY, S.C. – Presbyterian College
softball was unable to overcome three runs in the first inning to fall 3-0 to Coastal
Carolina on Sunday afternoon. PC was
held to just four hits while committing three errors in the game.
PC (18-24,
2-13 BSC) put itself in an early hole when a pair of leadoff walks came around
to score along on a strange play where a single to center field was misplayed
and then thrown away. The pair of errors
allowed Diagle to get around and score on the play. The run would be the final to cross the plate
for the day.
Coastal Carolina (23-25, 4-8 BSC) posted
eight hits in the game to take the win and series victory for the
Chanticleers.
The Blue Hose would not go away quietly
though, putting seven runners into scoring position and having two retired
attempting to score. Taylor Staten,
Leslie Hensley, Mary Ellen Morris and Lindsey Trombley recorded hits while PC
was assisted by a trio of Coastal errors.
Hensley got the start on the mound and
was given the loss to fall to 8-11 on the year.
She went four innings and gave up five hits while striking out two
batters. Coastal's Fredrick earned the win
to go to 13-14 on the season.
The Blue Hose will break for final exams
this week before returning to the field this weekend for a three-game set
against Liberty. The series starts on
Saturday with a doubleheader before concluding with a Sunday finale.
