CLINTON, S.C. - Presbyterian College women's
soccer dropped a 4-0 match to Furman on Sunday afternoon in the Paladin's first
trip to Martin Stadium in program history.
The Blue Hose fall to 1-3-1 on the year while Furman improves to 3-2.
The Paladins
opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Rachel Shelnutt posted her third
goal of the season when Chelsea McKie played the long ball forward. Shelnutt scored on the one-on-one opportunity
in the box.
Furman doubled
the advantage in the 20th minute with Martha Hall's rebound
goal. She put away the lose ball from
Shelnutt's shot for her second goal of the season.
The teams went
into the intermission with PC tallying just three shots in the half.
Out of the
intermission, PC pressed forward and garnered the first shot on goal of the
half when Stephanie Aaron delivered a chance that was saved by Furman's Jessica
Smith in the 51st minute.
Furman would
extend the lead in the 73rd minute when Ellen Moore posted an
unassisted goal when she finished on a loose ball in the box.
Seven minutes
later, Casey McKeon scored Furman's fourth when she scored off a corner kick
from Colleen Lynch.
The Blue Hose
had one last gasp in the final minute when Emily Boggus rifled a shot from
inside the box which was saved. The
rebound fell to Stephanie Allen who missed wide with her shot attempt just over
30 seconds before the horn.
Sarah Beth
Anderson went the first 82 minutes for PC in goal and made six saves while
allowing all four goals. She was
relieved for the final 7:20 by Jordan Broadway who saw her first collegiate
action, making two saves in the waning minutes.
Shots finished
20-8 in favor of Furman with the Paladins taking the corners battle 5-3. PC's Melanie Martin received the only card of
the match, a yellow card, in the 66th minute.
PC will play
this weekend in the College of Charleston Tournament this weekend against
Davidson on Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. and again on Sunday against College of
Charleston starting at 2:30 p.m.
