LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Presbyterian College men's soccer team
found itself in a tight defensive battle at Liberty on Friday night and one Liberty
goal proved enough to down the Blue Hose, 1-0.
PC moves to 2-10-0 on the year and 2-2-0 in the Big South
Conference. Liberty moves to 7-4 overall and 2-2 in league play.
PC goalkeeper Ethan Watson (Taylorsville, Ga.) made three saves in the
match.
Byron Quinatoa (Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Ecuador) tallied
one shot on goal for the Blue Hose and led the team with two shots on the
night.
PC matched Liberty in corner kicks, with one, and held the
Flames to only four shots on goal.
Quinatoa registered the match's first scoring chance,
forcing Liberty's Scott Sutarik to make a save 10 minutes into the contest.
Liberty would strike in the 21st minute. Juan
Nino received a pass from Travis Joseph and played a ball into Phillip Aseweh
five yards in front of the goal, and the Flame converted to put the home side
ahead, 1-0.
Watson made his only save of the half in the 25th
minute, stopping a shot from Zack Clark before the teams headed into halftime with
Liberty ahead, 1-0.
Luke Ade (Alpharetta,
Ga.) and Jonny Mercado (Lilburn, Ga.) each attempted to even the score with
shots in the opening 20 minutes of the second half.
Watson made two saves in the final frame to keep the deficit
at one goal. PC searched for an equalizer, but to no avail as Liberty held off
the Blue Hose for a 1-0 decision.
The Blue Hose return to action on Wednesday with a road game
against High Point. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
