BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Presbyterian College women's soccer team dropped an afternoon contest to Gardner-Webb on the road Saturday, falling by a 3-0 score.
PC moves to 3-12-2 on the year and 1-5-2 in Big South Conference play. Gardner-Webb improves to 5-5-6 overall and 3-3-1 in the league.
Stephanie Allen (Augusta, Ga.) tallied a shot on goal for the Blue Hose and led the squad in shots, with three. Rebecca Miller (Pauline, S.C.) also contributed two.
PC goalkeeper Sarah Beth Anderson made five saves in the effort, stopping four in the first half.
Allen tested Gardner-Webb goalkeeper Erika Lenns with a chance in the 13th minute, but Lenns kept the ball out of the net.
The Runnin' Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute on a Meagan Reynolds goal from Dawn Rollyson. Reynolds maneuvered around a PC defender and scored from 12 yards away to give Gardner-Webb a 1-0 lead.
Anderson made three saves after the goal to keep the deficit at one as the two sides entered halftime with the home squad ahead, 1-0.
PC tallied five shots in the second frame but Gardner-Webb scored two late goals to pull away for the win.
Megan Curan found the net in the 70th minute off of Rollyson's second assist of the day and Rollyson then scored a goal of her own, notching the capper in the 80th minute off of a Reynolds assist. The Runnin' Bulldog received a pass in the box and finished the opportunity to increase the Gardner-Webb lead to 3-0.
Alice Blackwell (Marietta, S.C.) and Allen both fired shots before the third goal in an attempt to pull even, but the chances went wide. Miller added another in the 85th minute.
Anderson made a final save shortly after the Miller shot for her fifth of the day.
PC returns home for a pair of matches at Edens Field at Martin Stadium to wrap up the 2011 campaign. The Blue Hose first host Liberty on Thursday at 7 p.m. before playing its season finale against High Point on Saturday at 7 p.m.
