Football Takes on Liberty Saturday

The Presbyterian College football team travels to Lynchburg, Va., this Saturday, Oct. 29, to Williams Field to take on the Liberty Flames at 3:30 p.m.  The game will be televised on ESPN3, as well as the Big South Sports network Sponsored by State Farm.  The game can also be heard on WLBG 860-AM.

The Blue Hose take to the road for the second of three straight away from Bailey Memorial Stadium ... PC traveled to Georgia Southern to face the Eagles Saturday, Oct. 22 and will now head to Liberty.  PC will be at Coastal Carolina Nov. 5 for their final road game of the season before returning home for the final two games (VMI on Nov. 12 and Charleston Southern on Nov. 19).

PC and Liberty meet for the ninth time this Saturday.  Although the Blue Hose and Flames are knotted at 4-4 in the series record, Liberty has won the last three of four meetings.  The last PC victory came in a 31-28 upset of then 17th-ranked Liberty at Bailey Memorial Stadium.  Liberty won last year's game, 34-24.  PC and Liberty were tied, 17-17, at the half before the Flames scored 14 points in the third quarter to take the eventual win.

Liberty is 4-3 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the Big South Conference.  The Flames have won their last four games, including a 38-16 decision at Charleston Southern last Saturday.  Leading Liberty on the ground is Mike Brown, who has scored six touchdowns in 90 carries for 314 net yards (46.7 yards a game and 5.0 a carry).  As QB he is 125-for-189 with seven interceptions and 14 TDs.  Garnering the bulk of the catches is Chris Summers, who has 40 catches for 614 yards and five touchdowns.  He is averaging 76.8 yards per game and 15.4 a carry.

The Blue Hose (2-5, 1-1) fell to Georgia Southern this past Saturday, 48-14.  The Eagles were ranked #1 in both the FCS Coaches and Sports Network/Fathead.com Top 25 polls.  The meeting marked the highest-ranked opponent the Blue Hose have ever played in Division I history.  It was also the second ranked opponent for PC this season.  Wofford was ranked in the top 10 in both polls the beginning of the year.

Lance Byrd leads the rushing attack for the Blue Hose with six touchdowns and 455 net yards.  He averages 65.0 yards per game and 4.4 yards per carry.  Michael Ruff paces the team in receptions with 24 catches for 219 yards.  Ryan Singer is 68-for-137 with six interceptions and four touchdowns.  He is averaging 118.1 yards per game.  Justin Bethel paces defensively with 62 total tackles (40-22), one sack, five pass breakups and three interceptions, as well as three blocked kicks.
