PC Heads to New York to Take on Stony Brook

The Presbyterian College football team embarks on its third road trip in as many weeks as the Blue Hose travel to Stony Brook, N.Y. to take on the Stony Brook Seawolves in a 6 p.m. game Saturday, Oct. 8.

The game is the Big South Conference opener for both teams.  The Seawolves were the 2010 Big South Co-Champions with a 5-1 league mark, while the Blue Hose were 1-5 in the conference last season, earning their first ever Big South win against Gardner Webb.

This is just the third meeting between the schools, with the Blue Hose having lost both previous meetings.  Last season, the Seawolves opened up a 37-0 lead, holding the Blue Hose to just 176 yards of offense, before PC scored late in the fourth quarter to make it a 37-7 game.  PC fell to SBU in 2009 by a score of 52-14.

The Seawolves are 1-3 after picking up their first win of the season Sept. 24 against Lafayette.  Stony Brook won, 37-20, behind the efforts of Miguel Maysonet, who rushed for 194 yards and four touchdowns in the contest.  He leads SBU on the ground, averaging 135.5 yards per game and 6.4 yards per carry.  Jordan Gush paces the team in receiving yards with 12 catches for 141 yards.

The Blue Hose are 1-3 on the season and have dropped two straight, falling at California 63-12 and then 62-21 at Furman.  Leading the ground game for PC is Lance Byrd, who is averaging 63.0 yards per game with 252 yards on the season.  Michael Ruff paces the team in receiving yards with 142 total and 35.5 a game.  He also leads in all-purpose yards with 106.5 yards per game.   Ryan Singer is 36-for-78 with five interceptions.  Demarcus Rouse and Justin Bethel are tops on the team in scoring with 18 apiece (three TDs apiece).  Lance Byrd, Joey Gilkey and Seth Moreland each have two TDs on the season.

Presbyterian College returns home Saturday, Oct. 15 for homecoming.  Kick-off against Gardner Webb is set for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on the radio at 860-AM WLBG and on TV at WMYA-40.
