CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College women's soccer team powered to a 2-0 lead early in the first half of its matchup against Campbell and battled the Camels to a 2-2 tie on Saturday night at Edens Field at Martin Stadium.
PC moves to 2-9-2 on the year and 0-2-2 on the year in the Big South Conference. Campbell moves to 9-3-1 overall and 3-0-1 in league action.
Gracie Boswell (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Emily Boggus (Conyers, Ga.) each found the net for the Blue Hose. Sara Simpson (Columbia, S.C.) picked up an assist on the day as well.
Goalkeeper Sarah Beth Anderson (Grayson, Ga.) made a season-high 14 saves in the effort. Anderson stopped six shots each in the first and second halves before registering two saves in the final overtime period.
PC wasted little time striking first, scoring 4:25 into the match. Campbell goalkeeper Ryann Torrero attempted to punt the ball down the field for a clearance, but Boswell leapt into the kick and deflected the ball in for her team-leading third goal of the season. The score put PC ahead, 1-0.
Boggus followed up in the 21st minute with her first score of the year to double the Blue Hose advantage. Simpson sent in a cross from the right side of the field to a waiting Boggus in the middle of the box, who converted for her first of the year.
Campbell cut into the lead a little over five minutes later. Ashley Clark found Pirjo Leppikangas with a cross and Leppikangas fired a shot that hit Anderson's outstretched hand but ended up in the net. The score then stood at 2-1 in favor of PC, a margin the Blue Hose took into halftime.
The Camels notched an equalizer in the 64th minute. Kirsty Meyer played a ball upfield to Ashley Clark, whose run ended with her ninth goal of the year and the tying score.
Both sides looked for a win in regulation but the match stretched into overtime, thanks to Anderson making several stellar stops on long-range shots as the second half wound down.
The first overtime period passed with neither side taking a shot.
PC created in opportunity three minutes and 10 second into the final overtime, as Brittany Whitson (Conyers, Ga.) headed a shot on goal. Campbell's Line Berntsen answered with a shot on goal as well in the 108th minute, but each team's goalkeeper made a save and the match ended in a 2-2 tie.
The Blue Hose return to action on Thursday night when the squad hosts Charleston Southern at 7 p.m.
