The Presbyterian College football team hosts Charleston Southern in a 1 p.m. game at Bailey Memorial Stadium Saturday, Nov. 19 in its final game of the 2011 season. The Blue Hose seniors will be honored in pre-game festivities.
With a 3-7 overall record, PC will be playing to tie is best overall mark since 2008 and fewest losses since 2007. The Blue Hose are a record 2-3 in the Big South and are fourth in the league. They can finish as high as tied for third with a win.
PC owns a 12-6 record in a series with Charleston Southern that dates back to a 16-17 CSU win in 1993. For the next 12 years, PC dominated the series winning all 12, but since 2006, the Bucs have won five in a row, including a 42-39 victory last season in Charleston.
PC opened up a 14-0 lead in the first quarter but CSU outscored the Blue Hose 28-3 the rest of the half to take the 28-17 lead. CSU took the lead up to 42-24 heading into the fourth quarter but PC would chip the lead away to a four-point game with 15 points in the fourth. The Blue Hose ran out of time, falling by the final 42-39 score, however.
Charleston Southern is 0-10 overall and 0-5 in the Big South after falling in a close 38-45 game against Coastal Carolina this past Saturday. Of the Bucs' 10 losses, five have been by two touchdowns or less. Teddy Allen leads CSU on the ground with 83 carries for 325 yards. He's averaging 46.4 yards a game and 3.9 a carry with one TD
In receptions, the lead belongs to Nathan Perera with his 42 catches for 705 yards and four touchdowns. He is averaging 16.8 yards a catch and 70.5 a game. Richard Mounce controls the offense for the Bucs at QB. In six games he is 68-for-158 with six interceptions and 10 touchdowns.
Defensively, Chris Kuzdale leads with 72 tackles (42-30). He is followed by Charles James (38-26) and Michael Chocholosek (36-28) with 64 tackles apiece.
PC is 3-7 overall and 2-3 in the Big South after earning the 38-6 win over VMI this past Saturday. It was the first win over the Keydets since a 45-21 decision in 2007. Ryan Singer had an impressive game with two rushing touchdowns and two passing TDs (to Anderico Bailey and Arthur Williams). He threw for 182 yards and rushed for 106 to lead the Blue Hose to the convincing win.
Leading PC this season on the ground is Lance Byrd who has 155 carries for 777 net yards and a team-leading seven touchdowns. In the air Michael Ruff is in charge with 33 catches for 316 yards and one touchdown. Ryan Singer has a 100.73 passing efficiency, having gone 116-for-224 with eight interceptions and six TDs. Ruff is the key return man so far for PC with 28 returns for over 500 yards (523). Justin Bethel has 84 total tackles to pace PC (52-27). Donnelle Williams follows with 73 (43-30).
Bethel made history this past Saturday with two solo tackles against VMI. He reached 196 for his career, becoming the Big South all-time leader in that category.
Home has been sweet for the Blue Hose. They are 3-1 this season and a win against Charleston southern would give them the most wins at Bailey Memorial Stadium since a 4-2 mark in 2008.
