CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team traveled to Charleston, S.C., on Saturday looking to capture a Big South win but fell to Charleston Southern, 6-1.
PC (8-10, 0-3 Big South) captured a singles win but Charleston Southern (6-6, 3-2) picked up the doubles point and won five singles matches.
Patricia Alves (Campinas, Brazil) knocked off Brooke Pletcher, 6-4, 6-2, in the fourth flight to give the Blue Hose a singles point. The win gives Alves her 10th singles win on the year.
Christina Limantoro (Surabaya, Indonesia) nearly pulled out a win in a hard-fought second flight matchup. After dropping the first set to Marija Dzakovic, 6-3, the PC freshman stormed back to take the second set, 6-4. Dzakovic proved able to hold off Limantoro in the final set, however, winning 6-3.
Paige Oelke (Athens, Ga.) found herself in a tight match against Olga Makhova in the top flight and nearly won the first set, but came up short, 7-5, before falling in the second, 6-2.
The PC women's tennis team returns home to Clinton for a mid-week Big South match against Coastal Carolina on Wednesday. The match is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
