CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College tennis teams both came up short against strong Winthop Eagles squads, as both Blue Hose teams fell by a score of 7-0.

The PC men see their record change to 11-9 and 0-3 in Big South action, while the PC women move to 8-11 overall and 0-4 in the Big South.

Both sides found themselves in hard-fought battles against the Eagles, who have yet to lose in conference.

Grayson Mills (Lilburn, Ga.) offered an impressive display as the freshman dropped a narrow match to Sergey Belov in the first flight. Mills took the first set, 7-6, before Belov edged him in the second, 7-6, and took the third by a 6-1 margin.

Rafael Berghaus (Offenbach, Germany) also took a set from an Eagle. Berghaus won the first set, 6-4, but could not find another in a close loss.

The men's side also provided close doubles matches. The tandem of Gonzalo Asis (Madrid, Spain) and Andrew Brigham (Birmingham, England) dropped their match by an 8-5 score, as did Berghaus and Mills in the second flight.

In the women's match, Paige Oelke (Athens, Ga.) nearly won a set against Yasmine Alkema in the first flight but proved unable to overcome the Winthrop player.

Christina Limantoro (Surabaya, Indonesia) also played tough against Elizaveta Zaytseva, falling 6-4 in the first set before dropping the second, 6-0.

Both teams head to Radford on Sunday for a Big South matchup against the Highlanders at 1 p.m.
