Radford scored two runs in the fifth inning to break open a scoreless tie and held the Presbyterian College softball team to just two hits, earning the 2-0 win over the Blue Hose in the finale of the three-game series this afternoon at the PC Softball Complex in Clinton, S.C.
PC dropped its third in a row for the first time this season to go to 20-11-1 overall and 5-6 in the Big South. Radford improved to 25-13, 6-2, taking sole possession of first place in the league standings.
Pitching was the story of the game with Radford's Jackie Jenkins throwing a complete game, surrendering just two hits in 7.0 innings, including a stretch of 11 batters that went down in order. She picked up the win to go to 11-1 on the year.
Leslie Hensley (Cheraw, S.C.) scattered six hits, including two back-to-back RBI singles with two out in the fifth inning, as Radford took the 2-0 lead, breaking the deadlock. She surrendered the next seven of eight batters, but the damage was done as she tallied her sixth loss of the season to go to 13-6.
PC travels up the road to Greenville, S.C. Wednesday, April 13, to take on the Furman Paladins in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast through www.GoBlueHose.com with John Avery calling the action.
