Leslie Hensley (Cheraw, S.C.) hit a RBI sacrifice fly in the sixth inning and held the Bucs scoreless, pitching a complete game with seven strikeouts, to lead the Presbyterian College softball team to the 2-0 win over Charleston Southern in Big South Conference action this afternoon in North Charleston, S.C.
PC improved to 18-7-1 and 5-2 in the Big South. The five league wins mark the most wins for the Blue Hose in Big South play. Charleston Southern dropped to 14-21, 1-2.
After giving up a lead-off single in the first, Hensley retired the next three batters and scattered four more hits over the next four innings to keep the Bucs scoreless.
After PC scored in the sixth, Hensley, behind a strong defensive effort from the Blue Hose defense, shut down the last six batters to help preserve the series win.
With Taylor Staten (Belvedere, S.C.) and Morgan Durham (Simpsonville, S.C.) on second and third in the top of the sixth inning, Hensley hit a deep fly ball to center field, enabling Staten to score. Durham came across the plate off a throwing error by CSU, and PC led 2-0.
Hensley picked up her 12th win of the season (12-3), scattering five hits, with no walks and seven strikeouts. Kimberly Hobbs took the loss (9-8), going the entire game with four hits and five strikeouts.
The Blue Hose are next in action Tuesday, April 5 at Gardner Webb in a single starting at 3:30 p.m. PC is home Wednesday, April 6, when it hosts Savannah State in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
