CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men's soccer team
struck first in its Friday night contest against visiting Liberty, but the
Flames scored twice to take a 2-1 victory.
PC (3-11-0, 2-4-0 Big South) received a goal from Byron
Quinatoa 3:01 after the opening whistle before Liberty (5-6-0, 3-1-0 Big South)
took advantage of two Kyle Breitmeyer goals en route to the win.
Blue Hose goalkeeper Tyler Beadle (Douglasville, Ga.) made
10 saves on the night, tying his second-highest total in a game this season. The
junior made eight saves in the first half, including several on difficult Liberty shots.
Quinatoa got PC off on the right foot with his second goal
of the season. The Blue Hose forward took a pass from Ignacio Monchetti
(Montevideo, Uruguay) at the top of the box and finished a shot into the left
side of the net to give PC a quick lead.
The Flames answered in the 15th minute. Beadle
made a save on Breitmeyer shot but lost the ball in an ensuing scuffle.
Breitmeyer recovered and poked a shot over the goal line for the equalizer.
Breitmeyer scored again in the 57th minute.
Blessing Tahuona found the Flame with a pass in the box and Breitmeyer
converted, giving Liberty the 2-1 lead it would hold for the rest of the match.
Monchetti led the Blue Hose with two shots. The sophomore
also tallied a shot on goal, as did Jonny Mercado (Lilburn, Ga.) and Quinatoa.
At halftime, Head Coach Bret Boulware and Director of Athletics
Brian Reese presented the new additions to Edens Field at Martin Stadium and
recognized the efforts and generosity of several donors. The ceremony honored
PC men's soccer alumni Dr. Bob Edens and Clint Galloway as well as Dr. Vaughn
and Tanyia Clagette and men's soccer alumnus Warren Blanchard. The new
additions include a press box, photo deck, concession stand and restrooms.
The Blue Hose return to action on Tuesday with a road match at Duke at 7 p.m.
