CONWAY, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's team dropped
a Big South Conference match on the road to Coastal Carolina on Saturday, 6-1.
The Chanticleers (8-7-0, 5-3-0 Big South) scored three goals
in each half to get past the Blue Hose (2-13-0, 2-6-0 Big South).
PC returns home for its next contest, taking on Winthrop
Thursday at 7 p.m. Coastal Carolina next battles Campbell on the road in a
Thursday night contest at 7 p.m.
Kelly Kozera (Rome, Ga.) scored her first goal of the season
and led the team with two shots. Sara Simpson (Columbia, S.C.) played her third
straight match with at least one point, assisting on Kozera's goal. Simpson has
amassed seven points in the last five matches to take the team lead, with 11.
PC goalkeeper Jordan Broadway (Chapin, S.C.) made nine saves
in the first half before Sydney Fontenot (Austin, Texas) entered at halftime
and stopped three shots.
The Chanticleers tallied three goals in the first 22:25 en
route to the win.
Fia Jonsson notched Coastal's first two. The Chanticleer
scored her first on a corner kick in the 16th minute before
following up a little over four minutes later on another corner kick.
The home side finished its first half scoring with a goal in
the 23rd minute from Ashley Day, who finished took a pass from
Maddie Phillips at the top of the box and finished to give Coastal a 3-0 lead.
The Blue Hose answered on Kozera's goal in the 28th
minute. Simpson played a ball to the sophomore and Kozera laced a one-two shot
into the net to put PC on the board going into halftime, 3-1.
Coastal added another goal shortly after halftime as Kacey
Kelley used a Maddie Phillips assist to bring the Chanticleers' lead back to
three, 4-1.
Camille Christie scored the team's fifth off of a corner
kick before Cisca Okoko finished the scoring in the 80th minute.
