CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College men's tennis team won the doubles point for the second straight dual match but fell to the Furman Paladins at home on Tuesday, 6-1.
PC moves to 2-5 in spring play and 4-5 overall on the year. Furman improves to 2-6.
Rafael Berghaus (Offenbach, Germany) and Grayson Mills (Lilburn, Ga.) continued their strong play at the top flight, knocking off Alex Christ and Joel Cook, 8-5.
William O'Connell (Nadi, Fiji) and Zachary Sprouse (Hilton Head, S.C.) clinched the doubles point with a thrilling 9-8 victory over Nate Collins and Watson George, moving the duo to 5-0 together this season.
At No. 3, Tyler Droll and Jacob Behal edged Nathan Crocker (Clinton, S.C.) and Edward Snead IV (Greenwood, S.C.), 8-6.
In singles action, Berghaus dropped a second-flight match to Behal in a close result. Behal narrowly took the first set, 7-6, before sealing the win with a 6-2 second set. At the top flight, Mills fell to Alex Christ, 6-3, 6-4.
At No. 3, O'Connell stumbled against Cook, 6-1, 6-2, while Andrew Brigham (Brimingham, England) suffered a setback at the fourth flight to Robbie Aru, 6-2, 6-3.
In the final two flights, Sprouse came up short against Droll, 6-4, 6-0, while Ryan Walters (Augusta, Ga.) fell to Sven Ivankovic at No. 6.
PC begins Big South Conference action on home on Saturday in a Blue Hose tennis doubleheader against Radford at 10 a.m. The Blue Hose women's team will take on the Highlanders as well.
