CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The Presbyterian College women's tennis team picked up a 6-1 win on Sunday afternoon against Western Carolina, dropping only one match to the Catamounts.
PC improves to 2-5 while Western Carolina moves to 0-4.
Greer Ransom (Athens, Ga.) earned her first collegiate win with a victory at No. 3 singles. The freshman gutted out a 7-5 first set win over Megan McLinden and sealed the result with a victory in the second, 6-1.
To begin the day, Lindsay Krause (Roswell, Ga.) and Cara Caruso (Roswell, Ga.) blanked Megan McLinden and Katie Barry at the second flight doubles, 8-0.
Paige Oelke (Athens, Ga.) and Patricia Alves (Campinas, Brazil) followed with a battle at No. 1, downing Ainhoa Iglesias Diaz and Karen Jimenez, 8-6. PC's third pair won by default.
In singles play, Oelke took a top-flight match from Diaz, 6-4, 6-1. Alves rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Katie Barry at the fourth flight and Caroline deLoach (Columbia, S.C.) shut out Sarah Walters at No. 5, 6-0, 6-0.
PC's lone loss came at the second flight as Caruso fell to Jimenez, 6-2, 6-1.
The Blue Hose host UAB on Friday in their next contest. The dual match is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
